VCC fashion arts grads show off their collections at Fiat Mode XXII

/CNW/ - Twenty fashion arts graduates are preparing to highlight their collections in a special year-end show on Sept. 30 at the Rocky Mountaineer Station. The evening promises to bring together an exciting combination of themes and cutting-edge designs.

Our graduates are quick to grasp the concept of developing a cohesive line, says Judy Ho, fashion arts program coordinator. They push the boundaries of creative fashion design and hone their abilities to choose the most appropriate fabrics and construct their collections using the best technical process.

Tara Wilsons collection features specialty fabrics in a rich palette of burgundies and coppers with antique finished hardware accents. I am inspired by the connection between music and fashion, says Wilson of North Vancouver.

Katherine Koniecki brings together distressed leather and contrasting silks in her show pieces. I was influenced by the concept of fragmented ideals, says Koniecki who lives in Vancouvers west end. I experimented with heavy canvases, leather and lighter fabrics to exemplify this idea.

In designing my collection, I looked at everything from gas prices to Jean-Luc Picard for inspiration, says Mandy Lau of Burnaby. Her love of intricate pattern making shows in her clothing designs.

Silk, wool, ramie and leather in shades from yellow to blue form the materials used in Brianna Vogelaars collection. My pieces are a play between masculine and feminine giving the collection a mix of structured and flowing silhouettes, says Vogelaar of Gastown.

Fiat Mode XXII features graduating students of the VCC fashion arts certificate and diploma programs. This is the inaugural show for the first class of our new fashion arts diploma program, says Ho. I cant wait to show off this group of young talents to industry professionals.

Complimentary media tickets are available for this event; photographs of collections and style descriptions are available now.

Event details: Wednesday, Sept 30 at 8 p.m., Rocky Mountaineer Station, 1755 Cottrell Street, Vancouver.
