How would you feel if you were suddenly debt free? Thats what the
non-profit credit counselors at American
Debt Counseling asked when they launched the Heres Me Debt Free
online video contest and the results were entertaining. The winning
videos are available online at www.americandebtcounseling.org/heresmedebtfree.
“I want to put the outfit back on and start dancing again”
Hoping to inspire consumers nationwide to realize a life free from debt,
the non-profit credit counselors at American
Debt Counseling offered to jumpstart the efforts of three people in
debt with cash prizes totaling $6,500 in the form of direct payments to
their existing creditors.
Many people answered the challenge, and three winners were selected:
Grand prize, $5,000:
David Arnett
South Charleston, West Virginia
Second place, $1,000:
Sarah Wilson Thacker
Irvine, California
Third place, $500:
Mary Musolino
Las Vegas, Nevada
The winners of American Debt Counselings Heres Me Debt Free contest
truly inspired us with their wit, humor, thought and creativity, said
Barbara Stark, director of community development and education for ADC,
a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization providing free certified credit
counseling and financial literacy programs as well as low-cost debt
management services across the nation.
We hope people will view these, share them with their friends and
family, and become inspired to save more, spend less and live a life
free from debt. Though the tone of these videos is light-hearted, the
message -- that a debt-free life can be a better life -- will resonate
with the millions of households struggling to pay off credit card debt,
said Stark.
Last year alone, American Debt Counseling helped clients pay off more
than $37 million in credit card debt.
Upon learning he is $5,000 closer to being debt free, Arnett responded,
I want to put the outfit back on and start dancing again, a reference
to his disco-inspired video.
