Pillsbury has formalized the full range of services it provides to
clients facing a crisis or the impact of a natural disaster through the
creation of a multidisciplinary Crisis Management Team.
Led by Houston environmental partner Tom Campbell, previously General
Counsel of NOAA who oversaw the development of the Natural Resource
Damage Assessment regulations currently governing oil
spills,Pillsburys Crisis Management Team attorneys have first-hand
experience advising companies and governmental entities on how to
anticipate, respond to and recover from a crisis.

Pillsburys crisis management efforts date back to the Great San
Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 1906, when it helped local businesses
secure reimbursement on their insurance claims so that they could
rebuild the city. Other representative work includes advising the
owner/operator of Three Mile Island during and after the 1979nuclear
accident before the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Congress, a
Presidential Commission, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the
Department of Justice; representing United Airlines in insurance claims
filed in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks; secured a 90 percent penalty
reduction associated with a 4.5 million gallon jet fuel release at the
Chevron El Segundo Refinery located near the Los Angeles International
Airport; served as internal investigation counsel for a Washington state
refinery after an explosion resulted in several worker deaths; and
developed the legal protocol for New York Citys Disaster Planning
program that President Obamas National Infrastructure Advisory Council
(NIAC) recommended be adopted nationwide by all state and local
municipalities.
The world is full of complexity and crises of all types, shapes and
sizes. Increased scrutiny of the financial services industry in the wake
of finance reform, huge technological advances that often outpace laws
governing cyberspace, the rising number of natural catastrophes
attributed to climate change, and massive environmental disasters such
as the Gulf Oil Spill have all resulted in a growing number of crises in
multiple areas that clients are confronting both now and into the
foreseeable future, said Firm Chair Jim Rishwain. Pillsburys
attorneys regularly advise on a broad range of global and national
crisis scenarios. Combining Pillsburys crisis capabilities and
experience under one multidisciplinary umbrella will provide clients
with the 360-degree approach and perspective they need to bring the
crisis to as swift and effective resolution as possible. The team also
has notable experience in crisis prevention to help clients limit
liability and reduce risk before a crisis occurs.
