The Public Invited to Join Interfaith Service to Honor and Help BP Oil Victims

Gulfside Assembly in Waveland, Mississippi will be hosting an Interfaith
Service for all on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. local time
to honor and support BP oil victims in the region. Members of the public
are encouraged to join together with their friends, family and neighbors
to attend this special event dedicated to those suffering from the April
2010 oil spill.
This unique service is designed to bring a diverse community of
believers together that will include national and regional leadership
from the United Methodist Church, the Lutheran Church, the Jewish
Synagogue and the Catholic Church, to minister those impacted by the oil
spill, as well as those still working to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina.
Gulfside, itself destroyed by Katrina, has endured several tragedies,
yet remains a refuge and sanctuary for those in need. These forces
brought destruction to the buildings and the land, but the spirit of its
people has remained strong.
Today, undeterred by natural and man-made disasters, a renewed Gulfside
Association will offer this symbolic location as a safe haven once again
to minister all people of faith on Sept. 17, paving the way for new
ministries and communities to grow and prosper on the Gulf Coast.

About Gulfside Assembly
Gulfside Assembly in Waveland, Mississippi, is a significant, historical
part of the United Methodist Church and has served thousands since its
start in 1923.Founded by Robert E. Jones, the first Black Methodist
Bishop, it was the only place African-Americans and their friends could
meet for spiritual, educational, and recreational activities in that era.
In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina destroyed all of the Gulfside
facilities. The Board of Trustees and supporters of Gulfside face the
future with optimism as it values the heritage of Gulfside and looks
forward to creating a legacy for future generations. For more
