BTI Systems, the company that redefines metro service delivery, today
introduced WideCast, a new portfolio of applications and networking
solutions that enables a phenomenal change in how bandwidth hungry video
content is delivered to the subscriber.
“OTT video is a no-win situation for service providers they dont own
the content, yet their subscribers expect quality delivery, which is
crushing providers access infrastructure”
WideCast will make its global debut in stand 5.A18 at the International
Broadcast Convention, (IBC), taking place at the Amsterdam RAI Centre
from September 10 to 14. IBC is the largest international event for
industry professionals involved in the creation, management and delivery
of entertainment and news content.
WideCast the first product of its kind to embrace Content Aware
Networking gives network operators the opportunity to turn the
problem of Over-The-Top (OTT) video delivery into a new business
opportunity. WideCast offers a plug-and-go upgrade for the network edge,
with the intelligence to automatically cache and locally serve large
unmanaged content files including OTT Video.
OTT video is a no-win situation for service providers they dont own
the content, yet their subscribers expect quality delivery, which is
crushing providers access infrastructure, stated Michael Howard,
Principal Analyst, Infonetics Research. Migrating large file content to
the edge on transport gear is an innovative approach to accelerating
content delivery, reducing upstream backbone traffic and its cost, and
optimizing capex investments in access networks.
The WideCast portfolio is built on BTI Systems history of developing
leading edge products and technology for service providers around the
world. Designed to provide an open application delivery platform,
WideCast permits BTI Systems partner and customer applications to be
deployed efficiently and closer to the subscriber. By moving content
close to the user to the last mile WideCast will save operators the
cost of planned bandwidth investments, improve the user experience and
enable the operator to optimize over the top content delivery and
monetize their infrastructure investments.
The WideCast portfolio contains the following key components:
WideCast Transparent Cache Release 1.0, A Self Learning Cache with
full P2P, HTTP, Flash support for bandwidth hungry downloads that
transparently deliver traffic at the edge without operators having to
manage content;
WideCast 200 and 300 server modules to support applications at the
edge of the network that includes a performance optimized lights out
- LINUX OS that is integrated with the BTI 7000 series products; and
WideCast Application Routing Software upgrades to BTI 7000 packet
optical networking solutions to maximize video caching benefits
without impacting throughput for non-cacheable traffic.
With the launch of our WideCast platform, we continue to improve our
customers ability to capitalize on the exploding demand for OTT video,
said Steve Waszak, BTI President and CEO. WideCast is the first truly
integrated solution of its kind. Once again, BTI Systems is providing
products that are enabling our customers to be innovative, transform
their networks and continue to drive new revenue streams, he continued.
